1 I Call Your Name (Lennon) 19/7/2009, 11:23
Melody
Principally written by John, this song was originally given to another managed Brian Epstein group, Bill J. Kramer and the Dakotas the year before The Beatles recorded it. Because it was used as a B-side to "Kramer's" single, "Bad To Me," which was also written by Lennon and McCartney, Lennon decided that The Beatles should record it. When Billy J. Kramer recorded this, he did so in a more submissive delivery, however, Lennon, using a more dogmatic style, indicated by his vocals that he didn't really much care if the girl in question answered him or not! It was recorded on March 1, 1964 in seven takes. The version heard here is a combination of take five and seven placed together. It was released on the "Long Tall Sally" EP.
* John Lennon – vocal, rhythm guitar
* Paul McCartney – bass
* George Harrison – lead guitar
* Ringo Starr – drums
Lyric:
I call your name but you're not there, was I to blame for being unfair? Oh I can't sleep at night, since you've been gone
I never weep at night, I can't go on
Well don't you know I can't take it, I don't know who can
I'm not going to make it, I'm not that kind of man
Oh I can't sleep at night, but just the same, I never weep at night, I call your name
Don't you know I can't take it, I don't know who can
I'm not going to make it, I'm not that kind of man
Oh I can't sleep at night, but just the same
I never weep at night, I call your name, I call your name, I call your name
